A Room with a View

A few years ago, when the pandemic first started, I built an orchid table out of scrap lumber and other materials I had around the house. I did it partly just to stay busy but also because I wanted a place where I could put orchids and see them from my office window. I wrote an article about it, here, and had it published in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book.

Besides being a place for orchids, it also happens to be a great place to get photos of visiting wildlife. One year there were baby barred owls sitting across the top post of the table.

A few weeks ago, I noticed a Great Crested Flycatcher using a very old birdhouse that I had hanging in a large oak on the property. This morning when I woke up, I was thrilled to see a baby Great Crested hopping around in the orchids so I grabbed a couple of my cameras and started taking pictures and videos. Experiencing things like this first thing in the morning bring me so much joy.
